Extensive parish of the western shore of the county, Cavez, extends its territory along the orographic basin of the Tâmega, serving, to some extent, of natural border with respect to the neighboring county of Ribeira de Pena, district of Vila Real. Riodouro, Pedraça and the former parish of Vilar de Cunhas, are other parishes that border this locality, characterized by a docile relief of ancestral tradition, clearly visible in the numerous solarengas houses and corresponding farms. The parish has 26.08 ksqm of area and 1,268 inhabitants (census 2011).

There are few archaeological news of its remote settlement. From the medieval period and very specifically from the 13th century, the remarkable Ponte de Cavez, classified as a "National Monument" since 1910, with its uneven arches, some broken, others round, huge and robust talhamares facing the current, this medieval public work is traditionally attributed to Frei Lourenço Mendes. A good man, resident in the place where today Cabeceiras de Basto sits, decided to replace, by a solid bridge of good stone, the rugged wooden bridge to dismantle, which joined the two banks of the river Tâmega, near his village.
There are many stories around the bridge. The source of sulphurous water that was born near the Ponte de Cavez on the right bank of the Tâmega testifies to the existence here of a place where the patients of the Hospital of S. Marcos de Braga came. It has its origin in a large rocky site in the site of the caldas, whereby through stone pipes it falls into a small tank, leaving a residue that when dry is combustible. The people testify that, when drunk in the morning of August 24, day of St. Bartholomew, before the sun shines, frees of all present and future ailments and diseases.

The pilgrimage of St. Bartholomew is one of the most attended in the region and served as inspiration to Camilo Castelo Branco for his story "How she loved him". On one side of the bridge is the chapel of St. Bartholomew, where believers came to ask for his miracles, on the other side are the sulphurous waters. The main church of this parish, of Romanesque origin, has been completely modified, only remaining of the primitive style part of the architrave of the choir. Camilo Castelo Branco visited this church in 1842, and refers to it in one of his novels.

The most interesting houses of Cavez, for their historical or architectural value are those of the Ponte, Souto, Church, Vale (Moimenta), Santo, Vale (Arosa), Cortinhas and Loureiro. In addition to the agglomerations of Cavez of mention the historical places of the bridge of Moimenta, Arosa, Rabiçais and Vila Franca.

The Sport Fishing Track is an infrastructure of significant tourist interest for the parish and the county. Of the festivals and pilgrimages, the one of S. João Baptista, Santa Maria Madalena, S. Bartolomeu, S. Frutuoso and Santa Luzia stands out. The roast veal is one of the gastronomic references of the locality.

The Cavez Sports Group, the Ranchos, of "S. João Baptista" and "The Farmers of Arosa", "The Farms of the Village of Cavez", the Social Center of the Parish of Cavês and the Hunting and Fishing Club are mobilising agents of development.
